About Animal Identifier
A free, AI-powered tool that helps anyone identify animals from a single photo.
Our Mission
We built Animal Identifier because curiosity about wildlife should not require a biology degree or an expensive field guide. Whether you spotted an unfamiliar bird in your garden, snapped a photo of a fish at the lake, or want to know your neighborβs dog breed β our service gives you an answer in seconds, free, without registration.
How It Works
Identification is powered by Google Gemini, a multimodal AI model trained on a vast corpus of visual and textual data. When you upload a photo, our backend compresses the image (privacy-preserving) and sends it to Gemini with a structured prompt asking for species, distinguishing features, and habitat. The model returns a result in 2β5 seconds. We do not store your photos long-term.

Project & Team
Animal Identifier is an independent project. It is built and maintained by a small team that combines software engineering with a hobbyist interest in wildlife and field naturalism. The project is funded by display advertising (Google AdSense), which keeps the core service free for everyone.
Languages Supported
The service is available in English, Russian (/ru), and Polish (/pl). We are open to adding more languages β write to us if you would like to help.
Limitations & Disclaimer
AI identification is highly accurate for common species but is not infallible. It should not be the sole basis for medical, legal, or safety decisions (e.g., determining whether a snake is venomous). When in doubt, consult a qualified specialist. We provide the service βas isβ without warranty of accuracy.
